Dear UNISONaction supporter,
A very Happy New Year to you all and I hope you managed to get some time off over the festive period.
As you may be aware the NEC election timetable has been announced. The nomination period opens on 9th January and closes on 10th February. Nominations must be made by a quorate branch committee meeting or AGM and all nomination forms must be received by the Member Liaison Unit by 10th February. Once completed they can be submitted by email to elections@unison.co.uk or through the post to Member Liaison Unit, UNISON, The UNISON Centre, 130 Euston Road, London, NW1 2AY.
UNISONaction Regional Coordinators from across the UK are meeting this Saturday in Manchester to agree the ‘slate’ for the national seats based on suggestions for candidates that have been gathered from all across the regions. UNISONaction candidates for Regional seats will also be shared at this meeting.
Assuming we can agree who will stand for the NEC seats representing UNISONaction, their details will be shared via our website and by email and their nomination statements will be distributed as widely as possible. It is hoped you will ensure these nominations are discussed and supported via your Branch Committee meetings and further advice will be issued after Saturday’s Meeting.
I hope this makes sense and please find below also the details of another UNISONaction Regional Meeting:
There is no doubt that with continuing attacks on our union, our movement and public services generally we need to raise our profile, increase our activity, resit and fight back like never before as more of the same will simply not be enough. Part of this fightback is to support this UNISONaction Broad Left alliance and get people into key seats within our union, starting with the NEC. We need lay activists prepared to lead the fightback and not accept the cuts and attacks imposed centrally and implemented locally – national attacks need national responses and UNISONaction is part of that national activist-led fight back.
It is hoped you can support all UNISONaction candidates in the forthcoming NEC elections and be part of creating a different and stronger union.
In Solidarity,
Glen Williams,
UNISONaction Team Member
